Interior features

The Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover SUV that stands out for its rugged, boxy styling, mimicking a classic Wrangler but shrunk down into a city-friendly package.

Exterior Styling: The "Mini-Wrangler"

The Renegade's design is heavily inspired by vintage military Jeeps. It ditches the sleek, aerodynamic curves of modern crossovers for an aggressive, upright stance.

  • Iconic Front End: It features Jeep's signature seven-slot grille flanked by large, round headlights.
  • Boxy Profile: Its squared-off corners, squared wheel arches, and flat upright windshield give it a chunky, miniature monster-truck aesthetic.
  • "X" Details: The taillights feature a distinct "X" graphic, which is a design nod to the fuel cans stamped with an "X" carried on the backs of old military Jeeps.

Interior Space & Atmosphere

Inside, the Renegade mixes rugged utility with modern technology. The boxy shape pays off heavily in terms of passenger space, though cargo suffers slightly.

  • Cabin Feel: Thanks to the high roofline, the cabin feels incredibly spacious with massive headroom, making it comfortable for tall passengers in both the front and back.
  • Design "Easter Eggs": Jeep designers hid fun details throughout the cabin, such as maps of Moab, Utah molded into the plastics, small Jeep silhouettes on the windshield, and "Since 1941" stamped onto the dashboard.
  • Boot Space: Because of its short length, the boot is relatively small for its class (around 351 litres), though the rear seats fold completely flat to accommodate bulkier gear.

Driving Experience & Off-Road Capability

On the road, the Renegade drives more like an SUV than a hatchback. It has a high driving position that offers an excellent, commanding view of the road.

  • Urban Manners: It is short and easy to park, though its boxy shape creates a bit of wind noise at motorway speeds and the ride can feel firm over bumps.
  • Trail Rated Power: Unlike almost every other small crossover (like the Nissan Juke or Renault Captur), the Renegade is a genuine off-roader.
  • Trailhawk & 4xe Models: The rugged Trailhawk version features raised suspension, underbody skid plates, and a low-range 4WD system that can tackle mud, rocks, and steep inclines with ease. The 4xe Plug-in Hybrid uses an electric motor on the rear axle to provide instant, precise off-road torque.
